CIVIC HALL

This large hall with a traditional proscenium arched stage is regularly used for talks, large meetings, charity events, amateur dramatics and occasional music gigs. There is an antiques/flea market every Friday, with a public cafe in the adjacent bar area (down a flight of steps).
Facilities
Hall size: 62ft long x 41ft wide x 20ft high
Seating capacity: 280 people
Public entrances: two
Available to hire: chairs and tables, radio microphone, piano
Dressing rooms: yes, but basic
Accessibility
A ramp from the Market Square leads to the main hall and there is an accessible toilet near the entrance. However, the main toilets, bar and backstage area are all accessed via stairs.
Charges
The Council holds down charges to maximise community use. Hirers are invoiced for each element of their booking, so that they only pay for what they actually use. There are reduced rates for non-profit, schools and charity organisations, for bookings on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and for multiple or block bookings.
Conditions of hire
The hall is not well sound proofed, so the number of music gigs or late finishes is restricted. There is also a limit on the number of licensed events each year. Professional security staff may be required. All hirers are asked to keep noise down to a reasonable level and to ensure that the hall is returned to its pre-event state at the end of an event.
