Winter Planning

23rd January 2018 Winter Advice from Devon Highways

Following the start of colder weather, Devon Highways has issued the following advice about their plans.

The forecast for the next week or so is as follows:

2 to 5 day forecast

Friday is expected to be a mild day but it will be cloudy with spells of rain. Breezy and relatively mild overnight with a few patches of rain. Saturday will be breezy with a band of rain sweeping through, and some heavy bursts are possible. The remainder of the weekend will be chillier again with showers and these could turn wintry, especially on high ground.

6 to 10 day forecast

Sunday and most of next week are expected to be unsettled as low pressure systems move across the UK. There will be showers and perhaps some longer spells of rain. It will be colder than average, so there will be the chance of snow, mainly on high ground. Some frosty nights are expected. It may become windy at times.

Help for Homeless

The South Hams District Council out of hours number for homeless people to seek assistance on cold nights is 01803 867034.

In case of snow and ice - extra supplies of salt will be available from the South Hams District Council depot on Babbage Road between 8am - 4pm Monday to Friday. This salt is available to any residents who live in areas which are not covered by the main salting networks and who need to make their local paths safe. It is NOT for private use and we ask you to respect this: there is only a limited amount available and, if you use it for yourself, there may not be enough for everyone else.
