Residents are advised that Wales & West Utilities will be carrying out essential gas network improvement works in the Sharpham Drive area of Totnes from 27 July until 28 August, in partnership with Devon County Council.
To allow the work to be completed safely, road closures will be in place on:
- St Peters Quay (between the junctions with Shute Street and Sharpham Drive)
- Totnes Down Hill outside Hazeldene
Clearly signposted diversion routes will be in place throughout the works. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys, as dates and durations may be subject to change.
The project forms part of Wales & West Utilities’ ongoing programme to upgrade older metal gas pipes with modern, long-lasting plastic pipes. The improvements are needed to meet increasing gas demand in the Totnes area while helping to prepare the local gas network for the future use of greener gases and supporting the journey towards net zero carbon emissions.
Wales & West Utilities has advised that every effort will be made to minimise disruption to residents and road users. If your gas supply is interrupted during the works and you require additional support – such as alternative cooking or heating facilities, or assistance with specific access requirements – you are encouraged to contact Wales & West Utilities as soon as possible so appropriate arrangements can be made.
The Town Council thanks residents and visitors for their patience and understanding while these essential improvements are carried out.
