Free Family Fun at the Totnes Christmas Lights Switch On Event

Local people are invited to the Christmas Lights Switch On event from 3pm-6pm on Tuesday 29th November in the Market Square and Civic Hall. This free, family-friendly, fun event is being organised by Totnes Town Council. There will be entertainment, children’s crafts, and festive treats to enjoy before the Christmas lights in the Market Square are officially switched on by the Mayor of Totnes – Councillor Emily Price – at 5.30pm.

Cllr Emily Price, Mayor of Totnes, said: “I always love this event. It’s such fun and always great to see so many of the town’s kids and their families at the Civic Hall, making Christmas crafts and getting excited about the coming celebrations. I can’t wait!”

Free activities include making Christmas cards and tree decorations as well as having bouncy festive fun in the inflatable snow globe – also free. Children can bring along a letter for Santa to post in the box in the Civic Hall and you never know, Father Christmas might even make a special appearance!  Be entertained by Elfic, be amazed at the dizzying heights of the stilt walkers and enjoy Christmas classics courtesy of Totnes Brass Band. To really get into the Christmas spirit, there will also be singing from the Year 6 classes at Totnes St John’s and The Grove Primary schools and a musical performance from the young musicians at Saturday Morning Music School (SaMMS).

Don’t go home without making a gnome! Totnes Town Council need more than fifty gnomes for the Christmas gnome trail. Make a sock gnome with its own unique hat made by the fabulous Knit and Natter library group. All gnomes will be displayed in participating shop windows in town during the whole festive period for people to admire.

All that fun is sure to work up an appetite, and Pizza Pirates and Food in the Community will provide refreshments for the event at a subsidised cost.  Pizza and cake will be sold at £1 per slice! Perfect if you are feeling peckish after a busy day. (Numbers limited, first come, first served)

For anyone who needs transport to and from the event, Bob the Bus will be running a free service between Bridgetown Spar, the Market Square, and Follaton Stores. Please see timings below.
