Totnes Christmas Festival 2021

Totnes Town Council considered the viability of the Christmas Festival nights in town for December 2021 at Full Council on 6th September. A debate was had on matters of safety, cost and risk which was informed by those working within the events industry. A unanimous decision was taken by all serving Councillors.

We are very disappointed to announce that due to the popularity and size of the event we cannot go ahead in the traditional format this year. It is very difficult to make this decision but it seems the only responsible thing to do, particularly given the South West has been so impacted by Covid rates and Devon has been designated as an ‘enhanced response area’ in response to current high case rates.

Christmas is not cancelled though! We are hoping to do a Christmas Light Switch On, involving schools and local community groups with a Santa’s grotto and music. We are planning to speak to local businesses and the Chamber of Commerce about late night opening in December even without the wider event in place and speak to some of the many existing groups in town about other, smaller ideas. Please follow us on Facebook or check our website for the latest information.

We have lined up some great coordination support for the 2022 Christmas Festival Nights and there are plans to improve and expand the Christmas lights in town next year as well.
