Volunteer at Totnes Guildhall this Spring and Summer

Totnes Guildhall is one of the town’s most treasured historic buildings – a remarkable Grade I listed 16th‑century Tudor guildhall, former magistrate’s court, and prison. This spring and summer, we’re opening our doors once again and inviting residents to become part of its story by joining our friendly volunteer team.

From 1 April to the end of October, the Guildhall welcomes visitors from near and far who come to explore its unique history. Volunteers help greet guests, answer simple questions, and share what makes this building such an important part of Totnes’ heritage. If you enjoy chatting with people, love local history, or simply want to spend a couple of hours in a beautiful setting (with free tea and biscuits!), we’d be delighted to have you involved.

We offer flexible two‑hour shifts, Monday to Friday:
11am – 1pm, or 1pm – 3pm

Whether you can commit regularly or only drop in occasionally for a shift, we’re happy to accommodate whatever suits your schedule. No experience is needed – just a warm smile and an interest in being part of our welcoming community.

To make it easy for anyone curious about volunteering, we’re hosting a relaxed Coffee Morning Drop‑In on 19 March from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Come meet the team, explore the Guildhall, ask questions, and enjoy free tea and biscuits. There’s no pressure – just an open invitation to see what volunteering with us is all about.

If you’d like to play a part in sharing Totnes’ rich heritage, we’d love to meet you.
