On Remembrance Sunday, 8th November, the Mayor of Totnes, Cllr Tim Bennett, will be commemorating those who gave their life in service to their country by laying a wreath on behalf of the town at the War Memorial outside St Mary’s Church.
People are invited to gather from 10:30am outside St Mary’s Church, 9 High St, Totnes, ahead of the wreath-laying at 10:45am.
Totnes Town Council is proud to be participating in the Poppies to Paddington initiative, which sees wreaths travel from every corner of the Great Western Railway network to London Paddington. The Mayor will be placing a wreath on the Poppies to Paddington Train at 7am on Remembrance Day.
The wreaths will be escorted by representatives from the military, cadets, veterans, and members of the Royal British Legion and forces charities to London, Paddington. Each wreath is then placed at Paddington’s War Memorial – a bronze statue of a soldier in his greatcoat, reading a letter from home.
On Remembrance Day, 11th November, the Council has arranged for the trees on The Plains to be lit red as a mark of respect. The lights will be on from 8am until midnight.
Please note, Totnes Town Council will also be holding a two-minute silence on 11th November at 11am. The office will be open, but the phones will not be answered from 11am until 11:02am.
